Best Swimsuit Styles by Body Type — Yo’s Picks

June 04, 20252 min read

Hey there, it’s Yo Taylor here, your go-to wardrobe strategist, life coach, and cheerleader at At The Style Table.

Today, I want to have a real heart-to-heart because I know swimsuit season can stir up all kinds of feelings.

Let’s be honest — stepping into a bathing suit can sometimes feel like stepping into the spotlight under a harsh, judgmental glare. But you know what? Not this year, not on my watch! We are flipping the script.

Your Body Is Beach-Ready — Right Now
Here’s how I coach my fabulous clients to walk into summer with a radiant, body-positive mindset:

Start with Self-Talk: Look in the mirror and tell yourself, I am enough, I am beautiful, and I deserve to feel good in my skin. Say it until you believe it.

Wear What YOU Love: Forget what magazines or Instagram tell you. The right swimsuit is the one you feel amazing in — not the one a trend report says you “should” wear.

Celebrate Diversity: Follow brands, influencers, and communities that showcase all body types. Fill your feed with images that reflect and uplift you, not make you feel “less than.”

Stay Present: When you’re at the beach or pool, focus on the laughter, the sunshine, the moment. Quiet that inner voice before it takes away your joy.

Best Swimsuit Styles by Body Type — Yo’s Picks
As a stylist, I help women dress their bodies with confidence, not hide them. Here’s my little cheat sheet for swimsuit shopping, but remember: You can wear whatever you want — these are just suggestions to enhance your gorgeous shape!

Hourglass
Traits: Balanced bust + hips, defined waist.
Best Swimsuits: Belted one-pieces, wrap styles, and classic high-waisted bikinis that play up your curves.

Hour Glass Body

Pear-Shaped
Traits: Fuller hips, smaller bust.
Best Swimsuits: Bold or ruffled tops to draw eyes upward, darker solid bottoms, and off-the-shoulder details.

Pear Shaped Body

Apple-Shaped
Traits: Fuller midsection, slimmer legs.
Best Swimsuits: Ruched one-pieces, v-necklines, and tankinis that define the waist and offer gentle tummy control.

Apple Shaped Body

Athletic / Straight
Traits: Fewer curves, straight silhouette.
Best Swimsuits: Cut-out one-pieces, bold patterns, and styles with ruffles or embellishments to create dimension.

Straight Body Type

Plus-Size
Traits: Curvy and fabulous.
Best Swimsuits: Underwire tops for support, high-waisted bottoms, swim dresses, and chic cover-ups that highlight your best features.

Plus size Body

What’s Hot for 2025? Yo’s Style Forecast
Fashion is about self-expression, and 2025’s swim trends are here to help you shine:

Retro Vibes — Think high-waisted bottoms, vintage cuts, and playful polka dots.

Wild Prints — Animal patterns, especially leopard, are still making waves.

Cut-Outs & Straps — Peek-a-boo cut-outs in one-pieces or bikinis add a fresh, edgy flair.

Eco-Friendly Fabrics — Sustainable swimwear is IN, because caring for the planet is always stylish.

Inclusive Sizing — More brands are offering extended sizes, so everyone can shop the latest looks.
