Happy Holidays, Beauties.
You know my love language is sharing wardrobe treasures, and this year that love feels more important than ever. 2025 has been a season of uncertainty. Layoffs, rising prices, and stalled paychecks are touching people we know by name. In the U.S., unemployment for women reached 4.4% this fall, up from 3.9% just a few months earlier.(FRED) That shift may look small on paper, but it represents hundreds of thousands of women; mamas, aunties, caregivers, suddenly wondering how to keep the lights on and their kids warm.

Behind every statistic is a closet that’s getting colder.
Nonprofits now estimate that about 2 in 5 children in America are “clothing insecure,” meaning they don’t have clothes that fit, are in good condition, and match the season. Requests for children’s clothing have nearly doubled in the last two years.(Note in the Pocket -)

Another report finds that roughly one in five families does not have enough clothing for their kids.(Josie's Closet Inc) When you add in the reality that the bottom 60% of U.S. households don’t earn enough to afford even a minimal standard of living once basics are paid for,(CBS News) it’s no surprise that a warm coat can feel like a luxury instead of a given.
And here’s a detail that really hits me: families can’t use programs like SNAP or WIC to buy clothing.(Note in the Pocket -) So even when the pantry is stocked, the coat hooks can still be empty.
I’ll go first with a confession: I own too many coats and jackets. Last year I shared several pieces that were just living rent‑free in my closet, and this year I’ve already pulled a fresh stack to release. I’m lovingly side‑eyeing my husband and my dad to do the same. Those extra puffers, denim jackets, and wool coats are doing absolutely nothing for us on hangers, but they could be everything to a woman waiting at a bus stop, or a child walking to school in January air.

So here’s my invitation: shop your closet like you’re styling someone you adore.
Look for gently used coats, sweaters, sweatshirts, jeans, boots, hats, and gloves. Check that they’re clean, functional, and still have plenty of life in them. Then bag them up and connect with a local coat drive, school “clothes closet,” shelter, or faith group. If you’re able, add a new pack of socks or gloves—small items, big warmth.
Maybe you’re feeling the financial squeeze too. I see you. Your generosity still matters. One hoodie, one pair of boots, one shared post about a clothing drive ripples further than you think. Community care isn’t about perfection; it’s about participation.

This year, let’s turn overflowing closets into overflowing kindness. Let’s bless others with the simple, powerful gift of warmth; a hug they can wear when life feels harsh.
From my heart and my closet to yours, happy holidays from the At The Style Table team.
With love,
Yo Taylor
