Four Years In: What These Events Have Taught Me

October 01, 2026•4 min read

Let me tell you something I don't say out loud very often.

Four years ago, I almost canceled my very first event.

A week before, my fashion designer called and told me she couldn't make it. And she was a big piece of the day. I sat there thinking, maybe this just isn't meant to happen. Calling it off would have been so much easier.

But I didn't call it off.

Forty-five women showed up in my backyard that day. And it was lovely. It was beautiful. It turned out so much better than I had any right to expect.

DMV Events

Was it perfect? No, it was not. There were hiccups. There was last-minute drama. Things did not go the way I had them written down. But the women came. They knew what I was trying to do, and they supported me and each other, and that room was warm.

I'm still proud of that day.

Then I Sat One Out

In 2023, I told myself I'd take a break. Just one year. Regroup, catch my breath.

Looking back? That was a mistake.

I had momentum coming off that first event. Women loved it. They were talking about it, asking me when the next one was. And I let it sit. Momentum doesn't wait around for you to feel ready. I know that now.

Coming Back

In 2024, I came back with Inner and Outer Beauty. Sixty-five women, and it was beautiful.

The next year, sixty-eight. That one was all about style, finance, and women's empowerment, because how you show up on the outside is tied to knowing your worth and knowing your numbers.

Those first three years, we were outside in my backyard. Women, sunshine, good conversation, all of it under an open sky. There's just something about that.

Then this past year the weather had other plans. So I brought everybody inside my home. Well over eighty women and more vendors than I'd ever had, right there in my living space.

And you know what? It made it more intimate, not less. There's nothing like welcoming women into your own home.

Forty-five. Sixty-five. Sixty-eight. Eighty-plus. Four years of women showing up.

What I've Learned

Every single year, the same thing comes back to me in the feedback: women love how intimate this is. They love being somewhere they can actually talk to each other and connect. Not shouting across a crowded ballroom. Really talk.

And I've learned something about myself too. I do like speaking. But what I love is the one-on-one. Greeting women at the door. Sitting down beside somebody. That moment when a woman says something out loud that she's been carrying around quietly. That's where I come alive.

I've gotten beautiful feedback these four years, and I've gotten constructive feedback too. I've taken all of it in. That's how you grow something worth growing.

What's Coming

So after taking it all in, I've decided that next year's event is moving to a venue. That's a big step, and I'm excited.

But hear me: I'm still keeping this thing relatively small. I'm protecting the intimacy. I'm protecting the connections. I want every woman who walks through that door to feel beautiful, to feel welcome, to feel like the space was made for her. Because it was.

The relationship building. The conversations. The fun. The support. A space that feels inviting the second you step in. All of that is coming with us.

I'm excited about the planning, and I want our fifth year anniversary to be something extra special.

Thank You

None of this happens by myself.

Thank you to my speakers, my vendors, my sponsors, and every guest who has ever said yes and shown up for me. Thank you to my photographer and my videographer for catching what words can't hold. Thank you to my volunteers and my staff, because you all are the reason the day actually runs.

And a special thank-you to my bonus daughter, Jessica Taylor, who was my keynote and made me so proud. To my cousin, Dr. Michelle. To my husband, and to Rock, who are always right there supporting me. I appreciate my family and the way they show up for me.

You all made it extra special.

Four years down. Here's to the fifth.
